Traditional clotted cream is made using a unique process that separates the fat from the liquid of cow’s milk. And while it may be absolutely loaded with fat, there’s no denying that its rich, creamy and slightly sweet flavour is pretty special.
But if you’re following a vegan diet, a dollop of regular clotted cream on a jammy scone can’t be your go-to treat when you’re looking to indulge.
But panic-not vegans! As usual, there are some options out there for dairy-free and vegan clotted cream. And to be honest, pretty good ones. Vegans don’t need to miss out! In this post, we’re going to talk about all types of dairy-free cream.

Is there Dairy-free Clotted Cream?
Yes, there are some options when it comes to dairy-free clotted cream. However, while there are some excellent vegan substitutes available for clotted cream these days. I don’t want to get your hopes too high, it’s probably best not to invite all your friends round for a scone and clotted cream party just yet.
If you used to know and love clotted cream it won’t be quite the same but there are still some good options nonetheless. Let’s take a look:

Is Elmlea Dairy-Free?
Elmlea does have a dairy-free cream option but no, they are not a dairy-free company. Most of their products include dairy so don’t be under the impression you can just grab any Elmlea products and it will be vegan-friendly because that’s absolutely not the case.
You need to look for Elmlea 100% Plant Based Double Cream Alternative.
What’s the Best Heavy Cream Dairy-free and Vegan Substitute?
If your recipe calls for heavy cream and you’re looking for a dairy-free alternative your best option is probably heavy vegan whipping cream or double cream.
Heavy cream generally has a butterfat percentage of 36 to 38% and double cream has about 48%. So they will both have a full and thick texture.
