May Veggie Home in Bangkok is a top choice for vegans visiting the city. It’s pretty popular so there’s usually a good level of busyness but the service is still always good. They’ve got plenty of options available, including Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and Western dishes.
I love the Massaman Curry here, it’s a perfect example of how traditional flavours can still be enjoyed in vegan cooking. Rich, creamy, and packed with flavour! It has loads going on from the perfectly cooked potatoes to then the spices and creaminess. May Veggie Home can, without a doubt, turn a classic dish into a vegan marvel without losing an ounce of its original charm.
2. May Kaidee
Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant in Bangkok
Location: Find May Kaidee on Google Maps
A stone’s throw from the bustling, and at times, chaotic, Khao San Road, you’ll find May Kaidee Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurant. Anyone who knows anything about veggie food in Bangkok will know of this place.
The vegan Massaman Curry here is fabulous! The balance of flavours in the curry is what makes it so good. The sweetness of the coconut milk, the tanginess of tamarind, and the subtle heat from the spices create a delicious dish.
I love that May Kaidee’s vibe and food always feel and taste authentic. It’s an incredible part of travel, to feel like you’re involved in the culture and experiencing it in a real way. This is especially wonderful as a vegan because it can often be more challenging. So, whatever dish you want to try, go to May Kaidee to eat like a local. The vegan Pad Thai and Tom Yum are also not to be missed either!

Location: Find Ethos on Google Maps.
Tucked away in an alley behind Burger King near Khao San Road, Ethos feels a bit like a hidden gem. It’s got a simple and relaxing vibe that can be a great escape from the busyness of the nearby streets.
The vegan Massaman Curry here manages to give a healthy, yet super hearty and fulfilling taste. The tofu in the dish absorbs the rich and creamy flavour so well.
The kind and friendly staff, the thoughtful preparation of food, and the amazing vegan menu make Ethos a perfect spot for vegan Massaman in Bangkok in 2024.

The Art of Vegan Massaman Curry
Massaman Curry, a real treat in Thai cuisine, has a fascinating history. From some research, I learned that its name is derived from the Malay word ‘Masam,’ which means ‘sour’. In Massaman Curry you’ll find Thai, Indian, and Malay influences, this dish is a great example of how mixing cultures can lead to the creation of something fantastic.
Making Massaman Vegan-friendly
In transforming Massaman Curry into a vegan dish, the key lies in keeping the perfect balance of flavours. The sweet coconut milk, the tangy tamarind, the earthy potatoes, and the rich spices all play a vital role. If done right, like in the places I’ve recommended above, the result is a dish that’s not just super tasty but also a celebration of Thailand’s culinary diversity and its ability to adapt and embrace new influences.
