The Best Cruelty-Free and Vegan Lip Balms in 2024
Last updated on December 10th, 2023
Cruelty-free and vegan lip balms aren’t always easy to find because they often have animal-derived ingredients such as lanolin, carmine, beeswax and squalane.
Ever since I was a small kid I’ve suffered from chapped lips and without a little relief from what seemed like a magical tin or tube in my pocket it could get out of control and I’d end up with clown lips! I’d whinge, cry and complain if I ever left the house on a day with a chill in the air without some kind of lip balm.
Anyway…I’m glad to say, these days I’m keeping my clown lips under control. But when I first started to make changes to what I’d buy I found it pretty hard to find vegan and cruelty-free lip balms. All my go-to brands were either not vegan, not cruelty-free and in many cases neither.
But, as with everything, it just takes a little time to find your way, and now I’ve realised that there’s a long list of really great vegan and cruelty-free lip balms available. And I’m going to share them with you in the hope that your life will become just a little bit easier too!

The Best Cruelty-Free and Vegan Lip Balms:
1. The Body Shop
The Body Shop has a lovely range of vegan lip balms. I’ve shared four of my favourites below they’re all made with ingredients of natural origin and are certified by The Vegan Society. Each is similar and does a great job of keeping your lips soft and nourished. My favourite is the hemp one, I love it because it doesn’t just seem to soothe my lips at the time of applying, it also makes them feel better throughout the day.
2. Beauty Kitchen – Natruline
Natruline Vegan Lip Balm by Beauty Kitchen is a fragrance-free lip balm. It’s very similar to what I used to use on my lips as a kid, but it’s vegan and cruelty-free. This little tin of goodness is made of 100% natural ingredients.
3. Betty Hula
This super nourishing lip balm from Betty Hula is lime and mango and smells delicious! And because it’s made using Shea butter it is super nourishing and keeps your lips soft and smooth!
4. Pura Cosmetics
This fruity vegan lip balm is super moisturising and hydrating. You just need to apply it once and it hydrates your lips for ages! It is cruelty-free and palm-oil-free. And there’s also no plastic in the packaging.
5. Benecos Lip Balm Classic
This cruelty-free lip balm is made using candelilla wax rather than animal-derived waxes such as beeswax making it vegan-friendly. It is also made using natural & organic ingredients. This one is unscented but Benecos also have raspberry, orange and mint lip balm.
6. Crazy Rumors
If you want a vegan and cruelty-free lip balm that will also bring a little fun and nostalgia this could be the one! A Raspberry Sorbet lip balm made of jojoba oil & shea butter might just be the one for you. Crazy Rumors have a wonderful selection of vegan, cruelty-free and natural lip balms.
7. Superdrug – This Me+
Squalene is said to work like your skin’s own oil to prevent moisture loss and help keep your lips hydrated. This vegan and cruelty-free lip balm is enriched with sweet almond oil so your lips are always feeling super soft.
8. The Ilex Wood
This natural vegan organic lip balm has a fresh minty smell and leaves your lips feeling super moisturised. It can also help to reduce cold sores. This lip balm is cruelty-free and there’s no plastic in the packaging. And another nice part is that it’s made by a small UK business.
9. Petit Vour
Meow Meow Tweet’s Rosemary Eucalyptus Vegan Lip Balm is made using organic cocoa butter and coconut oil. It’s also a cruelty-free moisturizing balm that comes in a biodegradable tube!
10. Kadalys Skincare
This luscious-smelling vegan lip balm is made using bioactive yellow banana and a blend of plant oils. It softens and regenerates lips and other dry areas. But be careful though, just because it smells like bananas doesn’t mean it’s edible!
So, that’s my list! There are, of course, other cruelty-free and vegan lip balms out there, but I had to end my list somewhere. I hope you found it useful!
