Sitting in a relaxing coffee shop enjoying a vegan coffee is one of my favourite things to do. Whether it’s with my laptop open getting a bit of work done, with a book or simply just taking in my surroundings, it’s a great way to spend an afternoon. 

Birmingham may not be known for its beauty or charm but it’s got plenty going on and lucky for me, it’s got coffee shops a-plenty and a vegan-friendly option is never too far away.

Whether you’re in search of a creamy plant-based latte, a vegan pastry for breakfast, or just a chilled-out place to enjoy your cup of joe, this list has something for you. 

Let’s take a look at the top 8 vegan-friendly coffee shops in Birmingham.

8 Vegan-friendly Coffee Shops in Birmingham

1. Cherry Red’s Cafe Bar

Cherry Reds offers a bit of everything from breakfast, lunch and dinner to all types of beverages and it’s very vegan-friendly! Here you’ll find whatever coffee you want with your favourite plant-based milk, I especially like their mocha!

And if you’re in the mood for something sweet to go with your coffee they have a nice selection of sweet treats including vegan pancakes.

2. Yorks Café

With two different locations in Birmingham city centre, Yorks Café has become a favourite destination for coffee lovers, both the vegan type and the non-vegan type.

Not only do they serve exceptional vegan coffee with the option of coconut cream, and a couple of vegan cakes, but they also have vegan breakfast and brunch options such as Avocado Toast. Take a look at Yorks Cafe’s coffee and cake menu.


3. Medicine Bakery + Gallery

If you’re looking for a real treat I’ve got the answer! Medicine Bakery + Gallery is a must-visit for both art enthusiasts and vegan coffee lovers. 

They’ve also got two locations in Birmingham city centre, one on New Street and the other in the Mailbox. There are loads of choices for vegans here, sip on one of their expertly crafted vegan coffees made with coconut, almond, oat or soya milk, and even add a dollop of dairy-free whipped cream if you’re feeling fancy.

And if you’re after a bite to eat you’ve got a selection of vegan toasts and grilled sandwiches to choose from as well as a vegan cake or cookie. Take a look at Medicine Bakery + Gallery’s menu to find their vegan options. 


4. Wayland’s Yard

Wayland’s Yard is a trendy coffee shop located on Bull Street in Birmingham city centre. It’s known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere, so welcoming that our dogs can come along too! 

Their vegan-friendly menu offers a range of coffee options made with plant-based milk, along with a delicious vegan cake or two. And if you fancy a proper breakfast they even have a vegan fry up with raving reviews.

5. Faculty Coffee

Faculty Coffee is a well-known destination for coffee connoisseurs. If you’re looking for something more than just a regular cuppa coffee pop this place into Googe Maps and get going now!

Located in Birmingham’s city centre, this café offers a variety of dairy-free milk options. So, their expertly brewed coffee can be enjoyed by both vegans and non-vegans.

So, if you’re searching for the best coffee around and a vegan cookie or cake on the side head to Faculty Coffee.

6. Kanteen

Tucked away on the edge of the city, in the up-and-coming area of Digbeth, you’ll find Kanteen. Kanteen is a charming coffee shop and restaurant with a passion for sustainability. They offer plenty of plant-based goodness in the form of both food and coffee.

So, if you’re out Digbeth way why not head to Kanteen and enjoy a vegan coffee with your favourite plant-based milk, while treating yourself to one of their tasty vegan cakes?

7. Quarter Horse Coffee

If you’re looking for a coffee shop with a focus on quality and sustainability, Quarter Horse Coffee is the place to be. They are another Vegan-Friendly Coffee Shop with two locations in Birmingham. 

As well as a vegan breakfast and brunch options their baristas know how to knock up vegan-friendly coffee creations. And if you’re in the mood you can pair your drink with one of their vegan sweet treats. 


8. Damascena

Whether you go to Damascena for a quick coffee, a sweet treat, a light lunch or a full-blown feast there are plenty of vegan-friendly choices!

Transport yourself to the vibrant flavours of the Middle East at Damascena Coffee House. Alongside their aromatic and delicious coffees, they offer a range of vegan-friendly Middle Eastern dishes, making it an ideal spot for a coffee and a light vegan meal.

My favourite is their vegan spiced chai latte, I could drink it every day! 

You can find a Damascena in quite a few spots around Birmingham such as the Jewellery Quarter, Harborne, Moseley, Edgbaston and on Temple Row in the city centre.

So that’s it for my list of vegan coffee shops in Birmingham. I’ve only just scratched the surface. There are so many more options out there and that’s without even mentioning the obvious such as Starbucks and Costa. Both of which offer a fantastic selection of vegan-friendly coffee options all over Birmingham.
