Vegan friendly snacks on a plane

Last updated on January 10th, 2024

Short flight, long flight, medium flight it doesn’t really matter, I love to settle down in my seat, watch the clouds pass by and enjoy some tasty snacks. However, as I’m vegan it means I need to think outside the box a little. So after coming up with some great ideas for vegan plane snacks I’ve decided to share some of my favourites with you guys.

The Best Vegan Plane Snacks to Get you Ready for your Next Adventure:

1. Vegan Trail Mix: A Nutty Delight

No matter where you’re flying to, a pack of vegan trail mix, premade or homemade, is a perfect snack to keep you energized. It’s a healthy and filling blend of nuts, seeds, and dried fruits that provides flavour and nutrients. I find flights can leave me feeling a bit run down so I do like to eat something that might help my body out a bit. Plus, it’s easy to carry and doesn’t need to be kept in the fridge.

Here’s one I really like and you can order it on Amazon, a train mix from Wholefood Earth. It’s vegan and comes in fully recyclable packaging

2. Hummus and Veggie Sticks or Crackers

Hummus can be a vegan traveller’s best friend if it’s packed well. Put a small pack of hummus with carrot, celery, and cucumber sticks in a resealable container. This means if there’s no vegan plane food you have a filling vegan plane snack that does the job.

3. Fruit Salad: Nature’s Sweet Treat

I think I always forget how much I love a tasty fruit salad until I’m eating it. Fruit salad is a sweet and nutritious option for vegan travellers like us. Pre-cut and pack some fresh fruits like apples, berries, watermelon, pineapple and grapes in a spill-proof container. It’s a refreshing way to satisfy your sweet tooth during the flight.

4. Vegan Protein Bars: Portable Powerhouses

Vegan protein bars are a super easy way to fuel up during your flight or any time during the journey. They come in various flavours such as chocolate chip, peanut butter and salted caramel and are packed with plant-based protein. These bars are perfect for staving off hunger and keeping you full and feeling lively until your next meal.

These peanut butter Trek protein bars are usually a go-to vegan snack for me when I’m flying. Take a look at Trek’s Amazon store here

5. Rice Cakes with Almond Butter: Crunchy and Creamy

I have to admit, I do love rice cakes, both sweet and savoury ones. Sometimes I buy the ones coated in dark chocolate other times I have the salt and vinegar ones to dip in hummus.

Another nice option is rice cakes with almond butter. Spread some creamy almond butter on a rice cake and add a touch of sweetness with a drizzle of agave syrup, then put another on top to make a rice cake sandwich. It’s a simple yet delicious snack that won’t make too much of a mess.

6. Veggie Wraps: A Wholesome Option

Wraps and sandwiches are a great option for vegans to eat on a plane. And making your own means you’re not at the mercy of the one soggy vegan option that’s left in the airport shop. Make up your sandwich or wrap using your favourite vegetables and a vegan spread, you could even treat yourself with a slice of vegan cheese.

7. Dark Chocolate: The Bitter Sweet Vegan Plane Snack

If you’re craving something sweet, a bar of dark chocolate could be the answer. Dark chocolate is often vegan, and it’s an excellent treat to enjoy while on the go, it’s tasty, gives you energy and it even has some health benefits. Just make sure to check the label because not all dark chocolate is vegan.
